Did You Know?

Parking Etiquette

In the spirit of being considerate to others, here are some guidelines for ODCMV parking:

General Parking: First Presbyterian Church of Mountain View holds a service at 10:30 a.m. You can help us be "good neighbors" by leaving the spaces marked "FPC" (in the lot closest to Miramonte) available for FPC congregation members to use. Please park in the lot that runs along the back of the church property between Miramonte and Begen. Additional parking is also available along Begen Street.

Guest Parking: Parking can seem a daunting challenge if you are visiting a church for the first time, so a few "first time guest" spots have been reserved in the parking lot nearest the playground. Leaving these spots available for visitors is sincerely appreciated.

Special Needs: The spaces in the small parking lot on Cuesta are intended for those with handicaps and other mobility issues. Able bodied individuals are encouraged to park elsewhere.

On Sunday, February 12, 2012, there will be an opportunity for parents to present their children for baptism or dedication. A church required time of instruction for those wishing to present a child on that date has been scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 7, in our offices at 1451 Grant Rd., Suite 102, Mountain View. Rancho Agua Viva Trip Info Meeting

Trip dates: June 10-15, 2011

Learn about an inter-generational, kid-friendly short-term mission trip to Rancho Agua Viva, just east of Ensenada in Mexico. Participate in VBS, construction, and other ministry opportunities. Our purpose for this trip is twofold—to demonstrate the love of Christ to Mexican nationals by our service and to build and deepen a sense of community among trip participants. Recommend an Elder or Deacon

Deadline: Monday, February 20

The Churchwide Nominating Committee invites you to recommend a deacon or elder to serve for the next term. Deacons embody Christ’s love by demonstrating leadership in serving people in need, within and beyond the community of faith. Elders serve on our church’s governing body, Session, providing wisdom and spiritual leadership. Elders and deacons both serve three-year terms. The Family Dojo

Begins Sunday, February 26, 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Join us as we come together and learn how to lead our families in the way of Jesus. Using the Lord’s Prayer as our guide, we will examine ways to practice Christian faith within our families and discuss ideas for spiritual growth in our homes. No matter where you are in your journey of faith, this group is designed to point you to what we all need—a deeper understanding of Jesus. Parents with kids of all ages welcome.

Additional meeting dates: March 4 & 18; April 1 & 15 and May 6.

Childcare and dinner will be provided. So that we can plan appropriately, please register at odcmv.org. Mothers Together Mountain View

Mothers Together Mountain View

Mothers Together is a unique community. We come together to receive support, to learn, and to grow. At Mothers Together, we believe deeply in the importance of relating to you as God's beloved daughter - the foundation of who you are. Each month, September through May, we will spend time together in small groups as well as in one large group in Fellowship Hall at Open Door Church Mountain View.

Small Group Bible Study

1st, 2nd and 3rd Thursdays of each month

Each meeting will include teaching, small group discussion, and time for intentional connection and prayer.

Peeking Into a Box of Chocolates

Temptation. We all experience it but are often hesitant to share about it. Join us in February and March as we openly and honestly address some of the issues that women struggle with. We will share our stories as we uncover the core issues behind several temptations and then deal with them together in light of scripture and God's grace.

Anger Management for Moms

Many women have never before experienced personal anger with such intensity and don't quite know what to do about it. Join us on February 23 as Teresa Drake identifies the path of anger, what triggers it and options for calming it - and overcoming it. Moms will come away with tips and tools they can use immediately to: manage their anger in the heat of the moment and teach simple age-appropriate expressions of anger and conflict resolution to young children.

The Children's Program, which is supported by the church and through donations, welcomes children from 3 months through Kindergarten. Infants are welcome to stay with mom.

Our prayer is for Mothers Together to be hallowed ground - a place during the week where there are no barriers to receiving and feeling God's love and grace ... AND the love and grace from each other. Please come as you are - no matter what stage you're in. We look forward to welcoming you and to hearing how God is working in your life.

Career Actions Ministry (CAM)

The Career Actions Ministry (CAM) is for both job seekers and employed "Good Samaritans" who want to help. CAM desires to bring the love of Jesus Christ, during these difficult times, to the growing number of MPPC members, their families and friends and all others who are facing the challenges of job transition.

For job seekers, we offer a multi-faceted program of large group meetings, small Success Teams, and the opportunity to join a web-based service called the Career Actions Network. More information.

For employed Good Samaritans, by signing up, you can easily submit job leads and facilitate connections between job seekers and hiring managers. More information.

Safe@Home Workdays
Most last Saturdays of the month, 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Various locations

We are a family-friendly MPPC ministry working in partnership with Rebuilding Together Peninsula one weekend a month to assist elderly, ill, and needy homeowners with their house maintenance. Our projects are designed to be fun for the whole family (all ages), and completed within 4-6 hours by a group of 8-12 volunteers. Typical Safe@Home workdays include things like deck or fence repair, installation of handicap grab-bars, weather-stripping windows and doors, painting or general fix-up. Children of all ages are welcome to serve alongside their parents.

Offer a Helping Hand!

The Helping Hands Team puts compassion into action by providing practical assistance to the Open Door Church Mountain View community, e.g., preparing meals, rides to medical appointments, etc. As Scott Palmbush often says, "We do not have a bench or sidelines at Open Door Church Mountain View – everybody gets to play!", and this is a simple way to “get in the game” and make a difference in the lives of others within our community! We utilize a web-based community, Lotsa Helping Hands, to communicate needs to those who have signed up to offer help as needed. Teach English to Local Day Laborers!

Open Door Church Mountain View's Service Outreach Team invites you to bless Spanish speaking day laborers in our community by helping them learn English! The Day Worker Center of Mountain View helps laborers legally obtain short-term day jobs, such as landscaping, yard work, painting, and other home repairs. Learning and Worship
